Ethnographic Film
Painting Culture
Jon created "Painting Culture", a short ethnographic film about culture change and indigenous Warli artist Prakash Pithole, for his documentary film class at the Alliance for Global Education in Pune, India. The film explores anthropological perspectives on culture change, specifically as it relates to the tribal majority Jawhar region in North/Western Maharashtra, India.
Tourism and Indigenous Cultures in the Northern Luzon, Philippines
Jon collaborated with Professor Sam Pack and other students on a project exploring the effects of tourism on local indigenous cultures in the Northern Luzon, Philippines. Jon was responsible for data collection, video production, photography, and at times interviewing - and participated in the research for two consecutive summers, in 2015 & 2016. Upon returning from the field, he was also responsible for creating a comprehensive file log of our video-based data. The research was funded by the Kenyon Summer Scholars program, which provides opportunities for students to work in close collaboration with faculty mentors; as full participants in the processes of creating a research plan, executing a research project, and preparing results for presentation in a public forum. The research was primarily video-based, but also incorporated the use of virtual reality recordings.
